A note before we start. See your GP about persistent changes in bowel habit, blood in your stool, unexplained weight loss or ongoing abdominal pain. This article is general information, not medical advice. LifeWave X39 is a non-transdermal, general-wellness phototherapy patch that gently stimulates the skin with light to support the body’s natural energy flow for strength and stamina. It is not a treatment for any condition.

Your gut is home to trillions of microbes that do far more than help digest food. They interact with your immune system, produce useful compounds and communicate with the brain. The good news: what you eat shapes them every day.

Key takeaways

  • Plant variety is the biggest lever — many people aim for 30 different plants a week.
  • Fermented foods can increase microbiome diversity.
  • Ultra-processed food, excess sugar and unnecessary antibiotics work against you.
  • Sleep, stress and exercise matter too.

What is the microbiome?

The community of bacteria and other microbes living mainly in your large intestine. A healthy microbiome tends to be diverse, and diet strongly shapes it. See gut health and longevity.

Why it matters

  • Immunity — much of the immune system sits around the gut.
  • Inflammation — a healthy gut barrier helps keep it in check.
  • Brain — the gut-brain axis links gut health with mood and stress; research is still developing.
  • Metabolism — microbes affect how you extract energy from food.

How to improve it

Eat a wide variety of plants — vegetables, fruit, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices.

Eat fermented foods — yoghurt, kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi, miso.

Feed your microbes — garlic, onions, leeks, asparagus, oats, bananas and legumes are good prebiotic foods.

What harms it

  • Ultra-processed food and excess sugar.
  • Antibiotics you don’t need (always take them when prescribed).
  • Chronic stress and poor sleep.
  • Inactivity.

Do you need probiotics?

For most healthy people, a varied, fibre-rich diet with fermented foods is more reliable than supplements. Probiotics may help in specific situations; ask your pharmacist or GP.

Where does X39 fit? Not here. Gut health is about food, sleep, stress and movement. I wear an X39 daily as a separate general-wellness habit, and make no claim that it affects the gut.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to improve gut health?

The microbiome can shift within days of dietary change; lasting changes take weeks to months of consistency.

Does gut health affect mood?

There’s a real gut-brain connection, though how much diet changes mood in practice is still being studied.

Does X39 treat any condition?

No. No such claim is made. X39 is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
