A note before we start. If you have ongoing trouble sleeping, snore heavily, stop breathing at night or are sleepy during the day, see your GP — insomnia and sleep apnoea are common after 40 and treatable. Don’t stop or swap any prescribed medication without medical advice.

LifeWave patches are general-wellness products. They are not sleep aids, not a treatment for insomnia, anxiety or any other condition, and not a substitute for medical care. LifeWave X39 is a non-transdermal, general-wellness phototherapy patch that gently stimulates the skin with light to support the body’s natural energy flow for strength and stamina.

Sleep is where most men over 40 are quietly struggling. LifeWave sells two patches people often ask about in this context: Silent Nights and Aeon. Here’s what LifeWave says they are, what I can and can’t tell you about them, and the sleep basics that do the heavy lifting.

Key takeaways

  • Sleep quality tends to fall after 40, and it matters for recovery, mood and body composition.
  • Silent Nights and Aeon are LifeWave general-wellness patches; claims about them are LifeWave’s.
  • I don’t use either, so I can’t offer a personal take.
  • Light, consistency, a cool dark room and less alcohol do the real work.

Why sleep matters after 40

Deep sleep is when a lot of repair happens — growth hormone pulses, muscle recovery, memory consolidation. It tends to get lighter with age. See sleep and longevity.

What are Silent Nights and Aeon?

Silent Nights is the LifeWave patch the company positions around rest. Aeon is positioned around stress and calm; see the Aeon patch explained. Both are non-transdermal — nothing enters the body. Independent evidence on them is limited, so treat LifeWave’s descriptions as company positioning. I don’t use either.

The sleep basics no product replaces

  • Morning light to anchor your body clock.
  • Consistent bed and wake times, weekends included.
  • A cool, dark room — around 16–18°C.
  • Less light and screen time in the evening.
  • Limit alcohol and late caffeine. See alcohol and sleep after 40.
  • Manage stress — breathing practices can help with winding down; see breathing for stress.

For me, magnesium before bed is part of my evening, and training and 10,000+ daily steps help me sleep. Persistent insomnia, though, is a GP conversation — CBT for insomnia has strong evidence.

Where does X39 fit? It isn’t a sleep product. I wear X39 daily as a general-wellness habit; sleep habits are what matter for sleep.
