A note before we start. Persistent fatigue, brain fog, cramps or headaches have many possible causes. If they continue, see your GP. This is general information, not medical advice. LifeWave X2O is a water filtration and infusion system; it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Roughly two-thirds of your body water sits inside your cells. That’s what “cellular hydration” means. The reassuring news: your body manages it automatically, as long as you drink enough and eat reasonably well.

Key takeaways

  • Water moves into cells by osmosis, following electrolytes.
  • Kidneys and hormones keep the balance tight.
  • Even mild dehydration can affect mood and concentration.
  • Ordinary tap or filtered water hydrates you perfectly well.
  • “Structured” or “energetic” water claims aren’t backed by good evidence.

How it works

Sodium is the main electrolyte outside cells, potassium inside. Water crosses membranes through aquaporin channels to keep the concentrations in balance. When you drink, it’s absorbed and distributed within minutes to hours.

Signs you need more fluid

  • Dark yellow urine.
  • Thirst and dry mouth.
  • A headache or tiredness that improves when you drink.

Thirst tends to weaken with age, so after 40 it’s worth drinking by habit.

Water quality

Treated tap water in Ireland, the UK and EU is safe for most people. Filtering is reasonable if you dislike the taste or have a local concern. Claims that tap water’s chlorine blocks absorption, or that special water hydrates cells better, aren’t supported.

What helps

  • Drink steadily through the day.
  • Eat plenty of vegetables, fruit and beans for potassium.
  • Use electrolytes for heavy sweating — I use Perform electrolytes around training and sauna.

Where does X2O fit? It’s optional. X2O filters water and adds hydrogen and a light infusion: filtration is sensible, hydrogen water research is early and mixed, and the light infusion is unproven. I don’t own an X2O.

Frequently asked questions

Can I be dehydrated if I drink a lot?

Not usually. Exceptions include heavy sweating without electrolytes, illness and some medications.

Does water type matter?

For hydration, not really. Choose by taste, safety and convenience.

Does X2O treat any condition?

No. No such claim is made. LifeWave products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

  1. […] Electrolytes are minerals that carry an electrical charge when dissolved in water. The ones that matter most for hydration are sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium. They govern how water moves in and out of cells, how nerve signals fire, how muscles contract and relax, and how your kidneys regulate fluid balance. Without the right balance, water you drink doesn’t reach the cells that need it — meaning you can be well-hydrated by volume and still be functionally dehydrated at the cellular level. […]

  2. […] This is the frontier of hydration science, and it is where interest in advanced water technologies has grown. Approaches like filtration, hydrogen enrichment, and light-infusion are being explored by people focused on longevity and performance for their potential to improve how water interacts with the body. LifeWave’s X2O system, for example, combines filtration with hydrogen enrichment and a light-infusion process, framed as emerging science rather than established fact. We explore how it works in our guide to what LifeWave X2O light-infused water actually is, and the deeper question of absorption in our explainer on cellular hydration. […]
