A note before we start. LifeWave X39 is a non-transdermal, general-wellness phototherapy patch that gently stimulates the skin with light to support the body’s natural energy flow for strength and stamina. It is not a drug or a treatment for any condition. Check with your doctor before starting cold exposure or sauna if you have a heart condition or high blood pressure. This is not medical advice.
Five is the number of habits you can execute every single day. Not ten. The power isn’t in how many habits you stack — it’s in how many you actually complete, for months on end. These are the five I don’t negotiate on at 50.
Key takeaways
- Resistance training every second day.
- 10,000+ steps, every day.
- Protein-forward eating plus a few basic supplements.
- Recovery inputs: cold plunge, sauna and steam most days.
- The Power List to make the other four happen.
1. Resistance training
After 40 you lose muscle unless you give it a reason to stay. Resistance training is the best-evidenced fix. I lift every second day using the RP Hypertrophy app, which handles progressive overload so I don’t have to think about programming. See you lose half of this by 60.
2. 10,000+ steps
The exact number matters less than the principle: daily non-exercise movement supports metabolic and cardiovascular health. Many men over 40 who struggle with energy or body composition are under-moving, not under-training.
3. Protein and the basics
Protein at every meal and mostly whole foods. On top of that: 10 PerfectAmino tablets a day (five fasted in the morning, five later), 10 g of creatine, omega-3 and vitamin D daily, Perform electrolytes, and magnesium before bed. See my PerfectAmino review.
4. Recovery and general-wellness inputs
Cold plunge, sauna and steam most days. I also wear a LifeWave X39 patch daily. None of these are treatments — they’re inputs layered on top of training, steps and food. I check my trends with a monthly Hume Body Pod scan and WHOOP.
5. The Power List
Without it, the other four slip. Each day I write five tasks — a mix of health inputs and work priorities — and complete them. That’s the core of Operator Standard, which I’m a founding member of. It’s a discipline tool, and discipline is what makes every other input work.
