A note before we start. Ask your GP to check blood pressure, blood sugar (HbA1c) and cholesterol, especially after 40. This is general information, not medical advice. LifeWave products are not a treatment for diabetes, insulin resistance or any condition.

Metabolic health is about how well your body handles energy: blood sugar, insulin, blood pressure, blood fats and waist size. A widely cited 2019 study from the University of North Carolina found only about 12% of American adults were metabolically healthy on all five markers.

Key takeaways

  • Five markers: waist, blood pressure, fasting glucose, triglycerides and HDL cholesterol.
  • Insulin resistance tends to build up with inactivity, visceral fat and poor sleep.
  • Resistance training is one of the strongest tools.
  • Protein-forward whole foods and good sleep help.

Why it tends to decline after 40

  • Less muscle (the main place glucose goes after a meal).
  • More visceral fat.
  • Less activity and poorer sleep.
  • Falling testosterone, which is linked to all of the above.

What improves it

Resistance training. More muscle means more capacity to handle glucose, and training improves insulin sensitivity directly. I lift every second day with the RP Hypertrophy app.

Walking. Daily steps, especially after meals. I aim for 10,000+.

Diet. Protein at each meal, plenty of fibre, fewer refined carbs and ultra-processed foods.

Sleep. Even a week of short sleep worsens insulin sensitivity in healthy adults.

Drinking enough — sensible, though a minor factor compared with the above.

Where does LifeWave fit? Not here. Metabolic health responds to training, food, sleep and body fat. I don’t use LifeWave’s X2O and make no claim that any LifeWave product improves metabolism. I wear an X39 daily as a separate general-wellness habit.

Frequently asked questions

What is insulin resistance?

When cells respond less to insulin, so the body needs more to control blood sugar. Over time it can lead to type 2 diabetes.

Fastest way to improve metabolic health?

Start resistance training, walk after meals, cut ultra-processed food and fix sleep.

Does any LifeWave product treat a condition?

No. No such claim is made. LifeWave products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
