Day 5 – When the Day Is Messy, Standards Matter More

by

Friday – 9:00 p.m.

I nearly forgot to write today’s blog post.

That pretty much sums the day up.

It was messy. Disjointed. Stop–start from the minute I woke up. And honestly, I’m glad it’s over.

Morning: Late Start, Real Life

I woke up late this morning — 7 a.m. — and straight away I knew the day wasn’t going to follow the usual rhythm.

Besa stayed home again, mostly fine but still not 100%, so we decided to just finish the week at home with her. A little upset tummy, nothing serious, but enough to change the plan.

Dropped Harry to school, came back, and from that point on the house was in motion.

Kleona had meetings at 10, 10:30, and 11, which meant I was covering at home. Work was fragmented. Focus came in short bursts.

This is the reality of family life — especially when kids are sick.

Non-Negotiables Still Happen

Even on a messy day, some things do not move.

First thing every morning:

  • Perfect Amino — 5 tablets on an empty stomach
  • X39 and X49 patches on

No matter what time I wake up. No matter how the day looks.

After dropping Harry to school, I:

  • Took the dog out
  • Got 10,000 steps done

That mattered today.

Eating Window: Not Perfect, But Intentional

I’ll be straight — I messed up my intermittent fasting window today.

I knew I wouldn’t get a chance to eat later, so instead of forcing it and under-eating, I made a decision.

Breakfast (around 9:30 a.m.):

  • 4 eggs
  • 4 slices of bacon
  • Huel Black shake

Not ideal timing — but intentional.

Lunch came after collecting Harry at 12:30 p.m.:

  • 6–7 meatballs in a sauce

Then more work, more juggling, more running around.

Later in the day, I had to bring both girls to dance class, which wiped out another chunk of time.

Training: Done, Even If Late

By the time I got home, I realised something important:

If I didn’t train now, I’d skip it entirely.

So I did my full-body workout at home. No gym. No steam room. No cold plunge. None of the things I actually enjoy.

Just got it done.

Dinner came late:

  • 3 lamb chops
  • Perform Nutrition blue-label whey protein shake

Not glamorous. Just fuel.

The Data Tells the Truth

WHOOP reflected exactly how the day felt:

  • Sleep: 85%
  • Recovery: 40%
  • Strain: 13.8 (overreached)
  • Stress levels elevated

I pushed past optimal today — not because I planned to, but because the day demanded it.

And that’s okay occasionally.

The Point of Days Like This

Today wasn’t clean.
It wasn’t structured.
It wasn’t enjoyable.

I missed the gym.
I missed the routine.
I missed the recovery rituals.

But I didn’t quit.

I moved.
I ate with intention.
I trained.
I showed up for my family.
I kept the identity intact.

This journey isn’t built on perfect weeks.
It’s built on not breaking when the week gets messy.

And now I’m done.
Day 5 is in the books.
On to tomorrow.
